Advice Framework – Beyond the mandate of compliance

  • By Daniela Mascarello
  • June 15, 2022

Our advice framework looks beyond the mandate of compliance and leverages it to find opportunities that help our practice community create better and more successful financial planning businesses.

At Fortnum, licensing is done differently and this is evident in our financial planning advice and compliance framework.

Our central goal is to provide our financial planning practices with support and confidence, knowing we stand behind them providing a comprehensive advice framework that strives to protect them and their clients.

Just as importantly, we want our practices to have access to resources AND decision makers who will guide and help them to achieve better business and client outcomes.

We are deliberately more hands-on than most licensees. In our experience, lack of engagement and accessibility of licensee management is a common cause for dissatisfaction for many financial planners.

For us, accessibility is central to everything we do. For example, when the ongoing service legislation came into effect last year, I personally met one-on-one with 80 practices.

On regular occasions, I also join our Fortnum Practice Engagement & Growth team at Practice Pods to discuss legislative changes and how it affects their businesses.

It’s these types of forums that allow us, as the licensee, to remain connected with our practice community and provide support that’s appropriate for the individual and different needs of each financial planning business.

Audits are a compliance requirement for all financial planning licensees, and we’re no different in that regard. However, our approach is to work closely with practices to create a positive experience.

While I admit, I would be hard-pressed to find any practice that enjoys the rigour of an audit, most agree their business is better for it.

While audits are designed to find breaches of legislation – and these must be corrected – audits can also identify matters that can (sometimes significantly) improve business performance by finding opportunities for greater efficiencies and better client experiences, which in turn creates opportunities for increased personal reward and profitability.

This is how our advice and compliance framework merges with our core commitment to helping our practices to grow and be successful.

As you would expect of any licensee’s advice team, we are also responsible for the supervision and monitoring of day-to-day Fortnum business.  For us at Fortnum, vetting and audits are a measure of our collective quality.

To move your financial planning practice forward with a licensee that provides so much more than just a licence, please take a moment to explore our website and follow us on social media. We invite you to get to know us and learn how we can provide the outstanding business and licensing services you seek and deserve.
